Alexandra Föderl-Schmid has been Editor-in-Chief of Der Standard since 2007. She joined the paper in 1993 as Germany correspondent, then moved on to work as editor of the foreign politics department, returning to Germany in 1999, then moving to Brussels in 2005 as EU correspondent.

She was editor of Der Standard’s economics section in 2006. In 2004, she was appointed Chairperson of Germany’s Foreign Press Association and in 2005 she was awarded the Alfred Geiringer-Fellowship.
