N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The Hindu and other group publications, Frontline, Business Line, and Sportstar, is an award-winning political journalist and analyst. He is also involved in journalism education at the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai, which has become the J-school of choice for India and the South Asian region.

His areas of special journalistic interest include Indian politics, India’s foreign and nuclear policy, issues of corruption and abuse of power, the challenge of communalism and fundamentalism in India, the Sri Lankan ethnic crisis and India’s interaction with it, freedom of expression issues, and the role of media in society. He led the editorial side of the comprehensive re-design by Garcia Media, in 2004-2005, of The Hindu, and subsequently the redesign of other group publications.

 

Starting March 15, 2011, The Hindu offered readers a broad spectrum of articles and reports based on a first selection from 5,100 India Cables, aggregating six million words, made available to it by WikiLeaks. These stories, often front-paged, and the relevant cables were published by the newspaper on 21 consecutive days in March-April 2011 and more followed later.
